The Real Pilates Standards of Training are distinguished by our focus on 4 key elements. Your weekly assignments are designed to develop your skill in each of these areas as well as your Anatomy, History and more.
WEEK 14 ANSWER KEY
ON THE FLOOR ASSIGNMENT
Q1. Timing is Everything: Teaching Drill - Developing your work from last week when you worked your Reformer from front to back and back to front, each transition should take you no more than 5 full seconds. Practice counting in your head - 1 - one-thousand, 2 - one thousand, 3.....etc. for each transition. Share with the group your results.
YOU'VE PRACTICED BEFORE BUT PUTTING A REAL COUNT AND A TIME LIMIT ON YOUR TRANSITIONS WILL HELP YOU FOCUS ON FLOW IN BETWEEN MOVEMENTS. THE SPEED IN YOUR SESSIONS RELIES ON THESE TRANSITIONS. REMEMBER THIS IS A TEACHING DRILL. OVER TIME THE AMOUNT OF TRANSITION TIME TAKEN BETWEEN EXERCISES SHOULD BECOME SO INGRAINED IN YOU THAT YOU KNOW WHEN IT'S TAKING TOO LONG. YOU'LL ALSO KNOW WHEN YOU'RE FASTER.
Q2. Full Intermediate Routine: This week at least once run your current full Intermediate program without looking at any notes. When it’s over - check your card. Note what you forgot or where you tripped up. Share with the group what exercises you missed and which ones you struggle with personally.
OWNING YOUR PRACTICE IS THE KEY TO YOUR TEACHING. THE CONVERSATIONS YOU HAVE WITH YOURSELF, THE CORRECTIONS YOU IMPLEMENT, THE ADJUSTMENTS YOU DECIDE UPON ALL CONTRIBUTE TO YOUR ACTUAL TEACHING.
Q: How vs. What: The tone, volume and modulation of your voice is even more important than the words you use. This week is Vocal exercise week. You will complete and upload your audio file to Canvas.
Step 1: This week use your phone (download a free app if necessary) and *record your group class or a private session.
Step 2: Watch this Video on Voice Modulation.
Step 3: Perform the exercises on this worksheet:
Q. When teaching, the words you want to amplify are the words that convey action or quality.
VOICE MODULATION IS ONE OF YOUR FINEST TOOLS. THE ABILITY TO CAPTURE AND HOLD ATTENTION IS KEY TO YOUR SUCCESS AS A TEACHER. WHEN YOU LISTEN TO YOUR RECORDING, NOTE ANY PLACES WHERE YOUR VOICE DROPS OFF IN ENERGY. NOTE PLACES WHERE YOU MIGHT BECOME MONOTONE. NOTE WHETHER OR NOT YOUR VOCAL TONE REFLECTS THE MOVEMENT YOU ARE TEACHING. TRY TO FOLLOW YOUR OWN INSTRUCTION BY BECOMING YOUR OWN STUDENT AND WORKING OUT WITH YOURSELF AS THE TEACHER. DECIDE WHERE YOUR VOCAL STRENGTHS ARE AND WHERE YOU NEED TO IMPROVE.
